Mood For a Day is a
classical song which was written by Steve Howe while
he was with Yes. It appears on both the Fragile
(Studio) and Yes Songs (Live) albums. This song
is always dedicated to the memory of my friend Chris
Franklin, who was attending the Peabody Conservatory
of Music in the late 70's
when he taught me how to play it. We did lessons during
our lunch break at Pickwick, a record distributor in
Landstown, MD.. Chris was a great person, a
great friend and a great musician, guitar player, and
songwriter. I will never forget him.
In the mid 80's Chris
toured the World playing guitar in the Bertie Higgins
Band. The band had the hit song "Key Largo" about having
it all like Bogie and Bacall sailing away to Key Largo.
Chris' biggest life thrill musically was playing in
Bertie's band at a sold out show at Madison Square Garden
in NYC. I cannot imagine how exciting it must
have been.
Chris went on to become
a very successful Civil Engineer. He left us way too
soon (in 2005 at age 45). This version is my take
on Mood For a Day, slightly different than Mr. Howe's
two versions (live and
studio) and Chris Franklin's. A combination
of both the Live and Studio versions along with Chris'
take on the song, with little additions here and there.
Is it perfect? No, but it was a first take audio file
and will give you an idea of my playing ability and
technique. I hope you enjoy it.
Please use your ear buds
or your headphones. Please don't play this through
a cell phone, lap top or notebook speakers!
Are you ready to tackle
Mood For a Day? Learning this song will build
technique and strengthen your fingers. It will not be
easy, but you will never regret taking the time and
effort to learn how to play Mood For a Day. I have put
it on TAB to make it easier for you to learn Mood For
a Day.
