Try playing the A
Minor Pentatonic Guitar Scale over an A Minor or A Major chord
for a Rock feel and sound. The fingering is the same as
the C Major Pentatonic Scale. Try both and
you will see what I mean. Both scales share the same notes.
This is called Relative Minor and Relative
Major. You
will learn more about it during lessons.

An easy way to get
used to the feel and sounds is to play it like this. Strum
an A5 (known as an A power chord, it has only two notes the
root and the fifth) or an A minor chord a few times to let your
ear adjust to A Then play:
TAB A Minor
Pentatonic Scale:
1E--------------------------------5--8---------------------
2B--------------------------5--8---------------------------
3G--------------------5--7---------------------------------
4D--------------5--7---------------------------------------
5A--------5--7---------------------------------------------
6E--5--8---------------------------------------------------
The
Whole Step bend notes are on strings 3G fret 7 and 2B fret 8.
Here is
how we turn the A Minor Pentatonic Scale into the C Major Pentatonic
Scale. Start on String 6 Fret 8 and continue the A Minor Pentatonic
TAB. The Whole Step bend notes will be the same as above. 3G
fret 7 and 2B fret 8. How cool is that! Strum a C chord a few
times before you play it to allow your ear to adjust to C.
TAB C Major
Pentatonic Scale: (to learn how to make your

1E--------------------------------5--8---------------------
2B--------------------------5--8---------------------------
3G--------------------5--7---------------------------------
4D--------------5--7---------------------------------------
5A--------5--7---------------------------------------------
6E-----8---------------------------------------------------
The
Whole Step bend notes are 3G fret 7 and 2B fret 8, the same
as the A Minor Pentatonic!
Speaking of letting
your "ear" adjust. Always trust your ear. If something
does not sound right, it probably isn't, but when learning something
new, try it a few times before you decide it is not right.
This is
considered Relative Minor, Relative Major.

Try a Natural
Minor Scale after you get used to these (Also known
as the Aeolian Mode). One of my favorites!
Try a Harmonic
Minor Scale after you get used to the Natural Minor.
